I've always loved Elsie's art journals and have been wanting to start one for a long time, so when she blogged about one recently I figured it was time to get my butt in gear and make one!
I thought about making one from scratch like I usually do with little notebooks, but then I came across a two-pack of perfectly purse-sized notebooks at the dollar store and couldn't pass them up!
I loved the black and white one (and I'll show off what I did with that one tomorrow) but the blue just wasn't my color, so I decided to cover it.
I sift through my old magazines and catalogues for fun photos, textures and text and cut out whatever jumps at me. Then I like to try a few different set ups and lay them over the top to get an idea of what it will look like. Once I'm happy with my set up I layer them on with a little glue on the back of each (smoothing them out with my fancy-shmancy bone-folder) and trimming the edges off with my x-acto knife. I used masking tape as a binder, but you could use fun washi tape too!
Front...
I also "prepped" a few pages so whenever I feel inspiration hit I can jot down thoughts or sketch a little bit with a fun background.
Have you ever kept an art journal before?

Love what you did with yours! I am fan of Elsie's art journals too and have plans to make one for my purse.

Such a great idea. I love what you did with the black one too. I'll have to check out Elsie's.
