I've been collecting/hoarding vintage scarves since I started thrifting and I've picked up my fair share of ones with amazing prints that I couldn't turn down, but had stains or small rips. I decided it was time to give a new life to one and turn this great sailor-inspired one into a headband!
Supplies:s Scarf (mine was a long rectangle - but you can use any large one), Elastic, and a few sewing supplies (you can hand sew or machine sew this project!)
Start by placing the scarf over your head with the pattern in the place you'd like. Mark off where the scarf hits right below your eyes (you can use tailors chalk, a pencil, or a little safety pin - be careful not to poke yourself though!)
Next you'll want to cut right below your markers, leaving about an extra 1/2 inch to an inch.
Measure out your elastic, you want it to be slightly smaller then the distance of the back of your head, between your ears and cut the elastic to that size.
Remeber the two ends you had left over from cutting earlier? Grab one! Now roll your elastic up in it (you'll have to scrunch it up as you go so that you can still grab both ends of the elastic) and do a quick stitch to keep it from unrolling.
Wrap the end of the scarf around one of the ends of elastic. Pin in place and sew (I used a machine to make it extra strong, but you could give it some strong hand stitches and it should be fine!) and repeat on with the other ends.
